When Life Gets Tough- How Do We Respond?

pic1

Every trial we face by the hands of an enemy is one step closer to what God wants us to look like. He is building a new person within us.

This is only true if we let the circumstances mold us for the better.

How many, many, times have crushing (devastating, severe, overwhelming, humiliating) circumstances just angered someone, just made someone bitter, just made someone walk away from the Lord.

A baby dies

A youth becomes addicted

An accident takes someone’s legs

You have to bury your child

You have to bury a parent before their time

You lost your job

You end up homeless

You have no food and the paycheck is a week away

This doesn’t even mention natural disasters, war, mass shootings, racism.

When these things, and others like them, occur what is your natural response. Be honest! How many of us suck it up and trust in the Lord?

The bible says: Romans 5:3-5 New Living Translation (NLT)

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Is that a passage we cling to during hardship?

Do we say to ourselves “this trial is going to make me stronger.” “This is a way for me to be a witness to the world that I trust God and can get through this with my character and dignity in tact.”

Rarely do we have this response. Maybe some people do, but not the majority of us. NO! Our first response is “This isn’t fair” “This isn’t how life is supposed to be” “How am I going to get through this”.

I am not going to end this post with easy answers or advice. I just want us to think about this today. Think about how we responded the last time life got tough. Think of how we can grow from here.
Until Next Time~
