Many of you read my article the other night when I was dealing with my son and there was turmoil in my house. We all have gone through upsetting times. In that post, I wrote that I had a calm, peaceful feeling even though fear was trying to have its way. I did not give into it. The Bible tells us we will have struggles:
1 Peter 4:12 International Children’s Bible (ICB)
12 My friends, do not be surprised at the painful things you are now suffering. These things are testing your faith. So do not think that something strange is happening to you.
Isaiah 54:17 New Living Translation (NLT)
17 But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!
Upon reading these verses, it is clear that we will go through troubles.
Just because we are children of God does not exempt us from life. But do not give into this through anger or fear. God is a loving God. He has made us promises. For the Bible has several verses we can turn to for comfort. We can call on God.
(There are a bunch of scriptures listed here. You may want to copy and paste them so you can memorize them and remember them when you are walking through distressing situations)
2 When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up;
Deuteronomy 31:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
6 So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
We are not to panic when hard times come into our lives. I know this is easier said then done. One of the things that can help is when we can quote a scripture over and over to calm us down and strengthen our belief. The above verses are good and so are the following:
Philippians 4:6-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 13:6 New Living Translation (NLT)
6 So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?
Joshua 1:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Isaiah 41:10 New Living Translation (NLT)
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Jeremiah 29:11 New Living Translation (NLT)
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Psalm 55:22 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
Deuteronomy 4:31 New Living Translation (NLT)
31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon you or destroy you or forget the solemn covenant he made with your ancestors.
1 Peter 5:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Hebrews 4:16 New Living Translation (NLT)
16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Romans 8:28 New Living Translation (NLT)
28 And we know that God causes everything to work together[a] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
2 Timothy 1:7 New Living Translation (NLT)
7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
1 Samuel 12:22 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 The Lord will not abandon his people, because that would dishonor his great name. For it has pleased the Lord to make you his very own people.
Proverbs 3:5-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation (NLT)
31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Psalm 27:14 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.
As Christians we are to hide God’s word in our hearts. The only way to do that is to read it over and over and let it sink in. My prayer for all of us is that we keep in mind God’s promises to be with us and to see us through whatever we are experiencing. I am very well acquainted with “big T” traumas.
Sometimes we do not want to hear scripture at that moment.
Yet thinking back on my life—these verses would have helped me tremendously when life was not good. I hope they bring you some solace now or down the line.
Until Next Time~
