It’s a Happy Day

It’s a happy day
And I praise God for the weather
It’s a happy day
And I’m livin’ it for my Lord
It’s a happy day
And things are gonna get better
Livin’ each day by the promises in God’s Word

That’s a little song that we clapped to at Westminster Christian School when I was growing up. I sang that song almost every Friday for 9 years. Back then I got the part about the weather. I got the part about living for the Lord. But the stuff about promises? Plural??? The only 2 I knew of was the one about forgiveness and the one about living eternally with God because of Jesus’ work on the cross.

You might be thinking ~ Hey Kate, that is the BEST one! And you’d be right. I totally agree!! Yet, still, there are many more. How many? Well I just started going through the Bible looking for promises and so far, I have found 132. – 132???!!!     Yep. I had no idea. At age 49, it is never too old to learn something new about God and his love for us. Yet, if I had known—really known (as in memorized) those 132 promises—then I would have had power in my pocket when life got rough. Something to see me through difficult times and to better handle things.

We have this wonderful text that comes alive when it is read. One of the promises is that “…he (God) will never leave you nor forsake you…” Deuteronomy 31:8. One way God has not left us is by giving us the Bible to keep, read, and remind ourselves of God’s goodness. We may never hear the voice of God. Even the few that have—it is a rare occasion. But we always have God’s Word in print, and these days all over the net.

Come to think of it, this promise in Deuteronomy might be the 2nd best promise God has given us. After we know we are loved, saved, & forgiven~~ the next thing we need to know is that God will always be with us. Life can be tough. Life can be lonely. But, even when no one else is around, we are never alone. There is One who sees us and walks with us every step of the way. He knows our strengths, our weaknesses, our thoughts, desires, and our needs & limitations.

In Jeremiah 29:11-13 we read “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

What beautiful words promising God wants the best for us. He hears us. God is available to us if we seek Him out.

Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

God wants to communicate with us. God wants to share His views, insights, & wisdom with us (and yes, His promises). God can help us through this life. God can reach us through a variety of ways: prayer & meditation, the Word, TV, movies, a sermon at church, a podcast or YouTube video, a song, articles or things that people say to us. God’s ways are limitless. We need only open our hearts and minds to receive wisdom.

I ask you this: How many promises do you know? Would you like to know more? Then, I encourage you to begin to search the scriptures specifically for some. AND, I will help out. I have. My hope for you is that you fall in love with the Almighty; that you seek and stand on the promises of God to carry you through each day.

It’s a happy day
And I praise God for the weather
It’s a happy day
And I’m livin’ it for my Lord
It’s a happy day
And things are gonna get better
Livin’ each day by the promises in God’s Word.

Until next time
Blessings, Kate
